HT Fluid Handling celebrate 50 years

HT Fluid Handling celebrate 50 years
25th August 2009
Hayward Tyler Fluid Handling, a division of the Hayward Tyler Group, is celebrating 50 years of business in August this year. This is an important milestone for the company who today specialise in the design and manufacture of canned motor pumps.

Since its establishment in 1959 in East Kilbride, Scotland, by Jock Craig, who set up the business to manufacture ceramic lined pumps, the company has grown steadily, supplying specialist agitators and canned motor pumps for industries such as chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food & dairy and beverage & breweries. Most recently the company has been focusing on its range of canned motor pumps for the nuclear industry winning some highly prestigious contracts.

The success of the business can be attributed to a number of factors in addition to their niche-engineered products. These include the manufacturing plant capabilities, quality and environmental management systems and certification. Primarily however the success of the business is down to its people, its greatest asset. A combination of long servers and fresh faces, including new craft apprentices, give a combined service of over 250 years. To complement the team further investment has recently been made in machine tools, expansion of the offices and improved IT systems.

Paul Noble, Managing Director of Fluid Handling stated “Our golden jubilee is not just a celebration of the past but more importantly of the future. We have a fantastic heritage and this, along with our ability to design and build mission critical long life equipment, places us in a strong position to continue as a specialised engineering business for the next 50 years.”

Hayward Tyler Group itself is one of the oldest engineering companies in the UK. In 2008 the company celebrated 100 years of submersible pump technology and shipped the world’s largest subsea motor. The Group also has also recently received two awards for their business activities in China, one for Product Innovation and Service and the other for UK Exporter of the Year. The company is a market leader in the design and manufacture of highly specialised pumps and motors for the oil and gas and power generation industries.

New Test Bay for Varley Pumps

Phase One allows the testing of special pump units on dedicated test beds. In addition to the dedicated test beds there is an additional area for Non standard and API Pumps with flow rates of up to 1000gpm (4500 l/min). The 125 kW bed has been used to test pumps at pressures up to 120 bar to date. An offline cooler circuit can be used to maintain a constant temperature. The bay also houses a 4000 gallon tank that is fully bunded so as to comply with the latest environmental standards.

Phase two of the project will involve moving the existing test equipment for testing of our standard pumps into the new area and adding data capture to all test parameters to allow them to be logged and monitored to allow unattended testing.

Varley Pumps manufacture double helical gear pumps for oil transfer, processing and forced lubrication applications, these can be designed and manufactured in accordance with API676 when required. The range includes bespoke pump systems, twin set pump units and a range of standard pumps. More details of the range pumps are available on the website http://www.varleypumps.com/.
