Uttar Pradesh has given approval to a consortium led by Bajaj Hindustan Limited, India s largest sugar producer, to begin construction of a 1,980-megawatt (MW) thermal power plant in the state s Lalitpur district. Bajaj Hindustan is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with the state utility Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) (Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh) soon. The project, which will be constructed on 1,500 acres of land at Mirchwara village, will receive water supply from the Rajhat dam, which is about 60 kilometers from the site. Pipelines will be constructed to route water to the power facility.
