Solar Workforce Certification and Training Accreditation Request for Information

DOE is requesting stakeholder input on our proposed activities to support personnel certification, instructor certification and training program accreditation within the U.S. solar industry. The Solar Program funds two organizations that administer certification or accreditation programs, but submitted comments can reference programs that the Solar Program does not fund. Additionally, DOE wants to assess the necessary federal role in the development of competency standards for the solar workforce and the extent these standards reduce installation costs and ensure consumer confidence in solar energy technologies.

The Solar Program s education, training, and workforce development activities focus on building the capacity of U.S. educational institutions to respond to the increased demand for individuals involved in sales, site assessment, design, installation, repair, and inspection of solar PV and solar heating and cooling systems. The Solar Program seeks to fund certification and accreditation organizations that can be responsive to the changing needs of industry, consumers, educators, students, jobseekers, and other stakeholders. This RFI will enable stakeholders to provide comments on the Solar Program s proposal to support solar domestic certification and accreditation programs.

The Solar Program supports efforts that educate and train students and professionals to improve solar installations.
