Two nuclear parks to come up in AP

At a cost of Rs 150,000 crore, Andhra Pradesh which is rich in uranium will have two nuclear energy parks. This is part of the plans of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) to set up a string of five such parks at coastal locations in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. All these nulcear parks will have a generation capacity of about 10,000 MW.
Currently the preliminary work is being carried out at the two proposed parks in Kovvada in Srikakulam district and Nizamapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The Kovvada park will have six reactors of 1,400 MW capacity each, which would be set up in phases. Two reactors of 700 MW capacity each are to be set at Pulivendula in Kadapa district.
