The Generation Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (AP Genco) is poised to add about 1400 MW by March 2011, including three units from the Jurala hydel project of 39 MW each.
The Andhra Pradesh Government may consider inviting tenders for additional power purchase of 500 MW for one year to bridge the demand-supply gap.
The new projects poised for synchronisation include Kakatiya Stage –I of 500 MW by May 2010, Rayalaseema Unit-5 of 210 MW by November 2010, Kothagudem State-VI of 500 MW by December 2010 and the first unit of 39 MW from Jurala hydel power project by August 2010 and two more units by March 2011.
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr.K.Rosaiah, directed the AP Genco to firm up dates for commissioning of new projects as this will enable Transco to plan in advance the management of additional supplies into the grid. At the review meeting of the power sector on Tuesday, he was informed that the Kakatiya power plant has been commissioned on March 31, and May end has been fixed for commercial operation of the plant.
