More than 12,500 MW projects from 10th Plan not cleared

Currently though it is the last year of the Eleventh Plan, power projects of about 12,549 MW which were to be commissioning in the Tenth Plan are yet to be commissioned.
As per the data from government out of the Tenth Plan projects that are still to be commissioned, nearly half are thermal projects in the Central sector which are being carried out by NTPC Ltd, Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and NEEPCO.
The projects are delayed due to contractual problems with suppliers, delays in placement of orders, and hold-ups in the balance of plant packages in case of the thermal projects, which total at 9,200 MW. Projects totaling to 2, 321 MW in the hydel sector are also still pending.
