An agreement between the Government of India and the International Atomic Energy Agency for the Application of Safeguards to Civilian Nuclear Facilities was signed on 2nd February 2009 and entered into force on 11th May 2009. In accordance with India’s Separation Plan, 10 nuclear power reactors and 6 other facilities have so far been offered for Safeguards. The implementation of IAEA Safeguards at these reactors/facilities is in accordance with the terms of the Safeguards Agreement.
