A high-level meeting is slated for 25 May to deliberate on implementing recommendations of a Planning Commission’s panel on measures to provide a level playing field for domestic power equipment manufacturers. The measures include immediate adoption of strict performance standards, safeguard or anti-dumping actions against Chinese suppliers and levying a customs duty of 10 per cent and SAD of four per cent for both mega power projects and upcoming ultra mega power projects. Orders for 33,000 MW of power equipment are already placed on Chinese manufacturers.
The panel has concluded that the extent of duty disadvantage faced by the domestic equipment players is about 14 per cent in case of mega power projects and the ultra mega power projects.
