Gujarat the western most state in India is afoot for being India’s solar energy hub with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd., a state holding company engaged in the business of bulk purchase and sale of electricity signing Power Purchase Agreements for a period of 25 years with 17 varied companies placing the generated solar power at 235 MW including solar PV and solar thermal.
Under the Gujarat Energy Policy, the tariff for SPV projects commissioned before Dec. 12, 2010 will be Rs 15/kWh for the first twelve years with the remnant 13 years yielding on a tariff of Rs 5/kWh. As for solar thermal projects commissioned before the same time line the tariff is Rs 12/kWh for the first 12 years and Rs 3/kWh for the remaining thirteen. “The Gujarat government has further extended the capacity allotment date till May 31, 2010,” said Mr. K. Jangid, Chief Finance Manager (Commerce), GUVNL on adding information about the companies which have won capacity allotments. Some of them are:

Initiatives in the aforementioned form have the potential to transform Gujarat into an “Integrated Solar Energy Hub” for the entire nation.
