Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd plans to float tenders worth Rs 64,000 crore during 2010-11 fiscal for nine high-capacity corridors to transmit power from new projects coming up in Orissa, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu with a total generating capacity of 42,000 MW.
These corridors will have high-voltage lines with the capacity to withstand variations of surge and decline in power transmission of the order of 800kV. The current inter-regional power transmission capacity is 20,800 MW which will be increased to 37,000 MW by 2012.
