The administration in Puducherry has plans to set up a co-generation power plant on the premises of the Cooperative Sugar Mill at Lingareddipalayam with an investment of Rs 135 crore. This plant will use bagasse from the mill.
Apart from this, they also have plans to start a distillery for production of arrack in Bahoor using the molasses produced by the sugar mill.
