IOC and TIDCO to set up gas terminal and power plant

Indian Oil Corporation along with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (TIDCO) will set up a Rs 10,000-crore LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) terminal and power plant near Chennai.
For this TIDCO will enter into a joint venture with IOC to set up a 5 million tonne LNG terminal close to the Ennore Port. This will supply about 20 million cubic feet of natural gas daily to industrial consumers. Along the LNG terminal, a gas-based power plant will be also developed.
This was finalised after there was a need for natural gas as a fuel for power plants and industries. By 2015 the demand for natural gas in Tamil Nadu is expected to reach 48 million cubic metres while the current availability is just a mere 4.2 million cubic metres.
